Child Nutrition Database, Release 27


The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that the Child Nutrition Database, Release 27 (CN27) External link opens in new window or tab. is now available. The CN27 is the required database for nutrient analysis software approved by the USDA for use in school meals.

Action Steps for School Food Authorities:

  • Before July 9, 2024, share with your software representative the action steps for nutrient analysis software companies (below).

  • After July 9, 2024, verify with your nutrient analysis software company that their software includes the most current version of the Child Nutrition Database, CN27.

Action Steps for Nutrient Analysis Software Companies:

To maintain USDA approval, software companies must submit their nutrient analysis and certification of compliant software, updated to include CN27, to the USDA Software Evaluation Team by Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Instructions for submitting software to the USDA are being provided directly to software companies.

The USDA recommends that companies update their software for their customers by the start of their school year, if possible. If you have questions about CN27, please contact the USDA Software Evaluation Team at cnpntab@usda.gov.
