California Educators Selected for Involvement in Item Development ActivitiesThank you California educators! Over 600 applications were received from educators interested in participating in the item development activities for the Smarter Balanced assessments. Through the end of this year, Smarter Balanced will conduct a number of pilot and field test item development activities, including Pilot Test range finding and data review and field test item writing and review. In May, the CDE announced the opportunity for California educators to apply for these item development activities. Applications were accepted through June 6, 2013, and California was able to nominate over 80 highly qualified educators for these activities. The first of these item development activities, range finding for the Smarter Balanced pilot test constructed response items, will be conducted in June and July.
Technology Readiness Calculator Released for LEAs
Smarter Balanced has released its Web-based Technology Readiness Calculator to help schools estimate the number of days it will take to administer the Smarter Balanced summative assessments on the basis of: the number of students to be tested, the number of computers available, and the number of hours per day that each computer is available during the testing window. The Technology Readiness Calculator can be accessed from the CDE Smarter Balanced Technology Readiness Tool Web page.
General questions about the Smarter Balanced assessments should be directed to the CDE California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress Office by phone at 916-445-8765 or by e-mail at email@example.com.
