Draft Accessibility and Accommodations Guidelines to Be Released for Public Review
The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium is expected to release its draft Accessibility and Accommodations Guidelines for public review and comment the week of August 12, 2013. This document is being developed to assist school and district staff in making decisions related to students’ use of accessibility tools and accommodations during the Smarter Balanced assessments.
Educators with experience instructing students who are English learners or students with disabilities are encouraged to review and provide feedback on this important document. Consolidated feedback on behalf of organizations is encouraged. Links to the Guidelines document and instructions for providing feedback will be available on the CDE Smarter Balanced Web page.
Members of State Network of Educators Selected
Congratulations to the 150 California educators who have been selected as members of the State Network of Educators (SNE) for the Smarter Balanced Digital Library! Over 400 applications were received from educators throughout California to participate in the state’s SNE. The CDE selected a diverse team of 150 highly qualified educators to represent California in the development of the Digital Library, the formative assessment component of the Smarter Balanced assessment system. Members will identify and evaluate professional learning and instructional resources that have embedded formative assessment practices for the Digital Library. The Digital Library is scheduled to fully launch in the 2014-15 school year, and portions of the Library are expected to be available as early as spring 2014.
