CST Math Blueprint PrefaceStandardized Testing and Reporting, California Standards Tests Mathematics Blueprint Preface.
The following blueprints are for the California Standards Tests (CSTs) in mathematics. Students in grades two through seven take grade-level mathematics tests. Students in grades eight and nine who are not taking a standards-based math course take the General Mathematics CST. The CSTs in Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Integrated Mathematics 1, 2, and 3 are end-of-course tests taken by students in grades eight through eleven. The Summative High School Mathematics CST is taken by students in grades nine through eleven who have completed Algebra II, Integrated Mathematics 3, or a higher math course. The CSTs in mathematics consist of 65 multiple-choice questions with an additional 6 field-test questions. It is also important to note:
- Key Standards are identified with an asterisk (*) and, with the exception of the General Mathematics CST, comprise a minimum of 70% of each mathematics CST.
- The “# of Items” column shows the numbers of questions testing each standard as well as the total number of questions for each strand (i.e., Number Sense, Algebra and Functions, etc.) The “%” column shows the percentage of questions assessing each strand.
- In the blueprints for grades two through seven, a distinction is made between the descriptive statements that precede each set of standards (i.e., 1.0, 2.0, etc.) and the standards that are actually being assessed (i.e., 1.1, 2.1, etc.). The Mathematical Reasoning standards are embedded within the standards assessing the remaining four strands.
- For grades eight through eleven, the standards are organized with a mixed notation (i.e.,1.0, 2.0, 25.1, etc.).
- In some grades or courses there are standards that, while important, are not assessable in a multiple-choice format. These standards are identified with the notation NA***. Though these standards are not assessed, they are important to the comprehension of the strand.
