Chair Baker called the Mathematics SMC meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. She pointed out that we were all viewing a cleaned up version from staff with suggestions from the previous teleconference three days earlier.
The two main topics of discussion were the instructional groups and the three possible submissions and their placement in the criteria. It was recommended by Commissioner Keys that the description of the instructional groups be placed directly after the introduction and before the submission descriptions. Chair Baker recommended that a description of Algebra Readiness, #6, and the paragraph on Intervention Programs, #7, submitted by Commissioner Metzenberg be moved from Category 4: Universal Access, and into Category 5: Instructional Planning and Support. It was determined that the second possible submission, “Intervention Programs (Grades four through seven) would be given a placeholder while the criteria was undergoing a field review. A small committee would be formed to align the proper standards for the proposed “Intervention Program.”
After other minor edits were made, Chair Baker asked for public comment and then asked for a motion to approve the Evaluation Criteria. Commissioner Wagoner made a motion and Commissioner Metzenberg seconded the motion. Chair Baker noted that after the final edits were in place, staff would send the draft field review copy to Chair Baker and Vice Chair Munger. The meeting was adjourned at 5:16 p.m.
