Chapter 10 – Criteria for Evaluating Instructional Resources
Subject Matter Committee (SMC) Chair Baker called the Mathematics SMC meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. Tom Adams asked Commissioner Goldberg if she noticed CFIR staff that she would be participating on the call from her Los Angeles location. She said she had not notified staff of the location change. Dr. Adams explained that she would not be allowed to vote during this meeting because of the Open Meeting Act rules. Commissioner Goldberg said she understood, but that she would like to continue to be connected to the call.
The Committee continued their discussion of Chapter 10, comments included:
- Need for clarification regarding sections deleted in the June 30, 2004 version as compared to the April 2004 version
- Organization of document may be confusing to publishers
- Concept of “closure” is not clear
The Committee noted several changes they would like included in the draft. Commissioner Metzenberg moved to have the Committee approve the previous version of Chapter 10 (April 2004), and to have CFIR staff work with Chair Baker and Vice Chair Munger to authorize additional corrections to the April 2004 version of Chapter 10. The new draft document would be sent to the Commission for review prior to the July 21, 2004 Commission meeting. During the July meeting, Commissioners Baker and Munger would present the revised draft Chapter 10 document. Commission Wagoner seconded the motion. Motion passed (4-yes; 2-absent).
Public Comment
Chair Baker asked for public comment and then adjourned the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
