Mary Coronado Calvario, Chair

Ms. Coronado-Calvario is an English Language Development Consultant with the Sacramento County Office of Education. She has extensive experience as a bilingual teacher and as a teacher in a dual Spanish immersion program. She previously served as a member of the ELAC, as well as the Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commission.

Guillermo Gomez, Vice Chair

Mr. Gomez is an Elementary Content Expert with the Los Angeles Unified School District . He has been a bilingual teacher, a literacy trainer, and an English language development instructor with the California Youth Authority. In his current assignment, Mr. Gomez designs ongoing support for English learners, develops training for parental involvement, and provides technical support to reading coaches.

David Carr

Mr. Carr is a founding teacher at Animo Venice Charter High School . Previously, he as a teacher at Compton High School where he also served as coordinator of the English Language Development Department, with responsibility for ensuring access to all content area courses for English Learner students. He has been involved with Teach for America , an initiative to recruit college students who will make a two-year commitment to teach in low-income urban and rural communities in order to expand the opportunities available to children in those communities.

Linda Gonzales

Ms. Gonzales has been a bilingual teacher, principal, and district superintendent. In addition to her expertise in curriculum and instruction, she has experience in teaching English learners and implementing dropout prevention programs and parent education programs. She served as Chair of the ELAC for three years. She has also served on the board of the California Latino Superintendent Association.

Sylvia Gullingsrud

Ms. Gullingrud has worked as a primary bilingual teacher in the Coachella Valley Unified School District for 28 years. She currently serves as Chair of the Language Acquisition Committee of the State Council of the California Teachers Association.

Anita Guzman-Turner

Ms. Guzman-Turner is a sixth grade teacher in Elk Grove Unified School District. She is on the district's Language Arts Steering Committee and has served on English learner and leadership committees. In addition to her active schedule as a teacher, she is active in the community. She is a former dancer with the Ballet Folklorico Tepatitan and is a member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Kiyoko Masuda

Ms. Masuda is Director of the Reading Implementation Center in the Alameda County Office of Education. She has experience as a teacher and administrator, and currently serves on the Content Review Panels for English/Language Arts for both STAR and CAHSEE.

Aida L. Molina

Ms. Molina is an administrator with the Bakersfield School District . She administers reading grants and supports principals, coaches, and teachers in the area of literacy. Ms. Molina has also been an elementary school principal, a district bilingual lead teacher, and a bilingual teacher in elementary grades. She is a member of the Association of California School Administrators and the California Association of Bilingual Education.

Ana F. Ponce

Dolores (Val) Rains

Ms. Rains' broad experience in education includes teaching, serving for 25 years on the Pleasant Valley School District Board, and working with members of the legislature on education advisory committees. Her leadership in California Schools Board Association includes work on CSBA's English Language Learners Task Force.

Elizabeth G. Salcido

Ms. Salcido is a bilingual (Spanish) principal at Hollydale School in the Paramount Unified School District . In addition to her experience as assistant principal and teacher, special assignments during her career have included Test Preparedness Program Coordinator and District Mentor Teacher.
