Sacramento – The State Board of Education (SBE) today named Theresa Garcia as the new Executive Director of the State Board of Education.
“We are excited about the leadership she will bring to the board. The board is confident that her vast experience in education, coupled with her commitment to the children of California make her the right choice for the board”, said Ted Mitchell, President State Board of Education.
Garcia has an extensive background in California education. She previously served as the K-12 Assistant Secretary for the Office of the Secretary of Education, and as principal consultant for the Assembly Education Committee. She also served at the State Board of Education and the Sacramento County Office of Education. Most recently, she was an independent policy consultant and was the vice president of California Policy for Children Now. Garcia lives in Elk Grove and has two daughters ages 5 and 21.
