CDE Library Survey DirectionsThese are the directions for printing and accessing the CA school libraries survey for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Directions for Beginning the Survey
Note the information being collected is about the 2014 - 2015 academic year. If records were not kept, please give your best estimate for this survey and begin to collect the data for next year.
- Print a copy (DOC) of the entire survey to use as a worksheet.
- Once you have assembled your information on the printed worksheet, you can come back to enter the data online.
- A password is again required. For password assistance, contact Lisa Leiplein at (916) 319-0441 or LLeiplein@cde.ca.gov
- You may return to the survey at any time to make changes until April 30, 2016, when the survey will be closed.
As you answer the questions, the information for your school goes directly into a database. You will be prompted to correct an entry if it cannot be "read" by the database.
For question 10 regarding how you classify your biographies, if you classify your biographies multiple ways (e.g., sports figures within their subject area and all other biographies grouped together) either select the category most of your biographies are cataloged in or select “other.”
Answer question 11 to the best of your ability. If your biographies are spread throughout the collection conduct a subject search for “biographies” and you should be able to use the results to identify the number of books and average copyright date. If you are unable to get copyright years from the electronic catalog, pull a systematic random selection of 25 biographies (e.g., every third item, an item from every fifth shelf, or several selections within each subject area) and average their copyright years. If you are unable to establish an average copyright date then type “none.”
Each school has a record in the database. At this time, we are collecting information from individual schools, including juvenile court and charter schools, but not from districts, county offices, or private schools. To find the record for your school, use the drop-down menus to select your county, district and then school.
Your answers are recorded in our database when you use the Next and Submit buttons. Please do not attempt to use your browser's Back button.
