20TH ANNUAL CALIFORNIA PARTNERSHIP ACADEMIES CONFERENCE

A fantastic program and hotel awaits us! We have identified the dates and location for the 20th Annual California Partnership Academies Conference. The conference will be held March 24-26, 2008 at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina. Please note that this year the conference will start on Monday, March 24th, ending Wednesday, March 26th. The location is worth the change.

Be sure to think about hosting a Share Fair Booth or Roundtable discussion (PDF; 60KB; 2pp.). These are critical components of the conference and a great way to network.

Also, if you know of a vendor that you feel will be a benefit to other academies, please refer them to Machelle Martin at mamartin@cde.ca.gov.

See you in March!!!

RESOURCE LINKS

Mentoring is a difficult implementation piece of the California Partnership Academies model. There is information and resources about mentoring at the Governor's Mentoring Partnership (Outside Source).

The Career Academy Support Network (CASN) (Outside Source) is a comprehensive resource for small learning communities (SLCs) and academies in high schools across the United States. CASN offers professional development for staff engaged in implementing academies and SLCs, produces a variety of guides and handbooks, and conducts evaluation and research.

The California Center for College and Career (ConnectEd) (Outside Source) is a hub for innovative practice, policy and research to expand the number of education pathways that prepare students for college and career. ConnectEd will advance the role that academically rigorous career and technical education plays in reforming California high schools so that more students master the knowledge and skills they will need to succeed in tomorrow’s economy. As a result, more students will graduate from high school prepared for college and a career.

The National Academy Foundation (NAF) (Outside Source) was created as a partnership between business leaders and educators to address the need to prepare students for professional careers. NAF serves over 50,000 students in over 500 Academies in 41 states and the District of Columbia in urban schools through small learning communities. The National Academy Foundation operates four Academies: the Academy of Finance, the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism, the Academy of Information Technology, and the Academy of Engineering.
