Intersegmental Coordinating Committee

Purpose

The California Education Round Table (CERT) is comprised of the chief executive officers of the educational sectors and the State's long-range planning and coordinating agency. Through their collaborative initiatives, the Round Table seeks to achieve the following goal:

All students will meet high academic standards such that they will be prepared for subsequent success in education or the workplace without the need for remediation in core academic disciplines.

The Intersegmental Coordinating Committee (ICC) (Outside Source) is the programmatic arm of the Round Table. Composed of staff, faculty, and student representatives from all sectors of education, the ICC has responsibility for fostering collaboration within California's educational community at all levels through conducting activities and supporting strategies that link the public schools, community colleges, and baccalaureate-granting colleges and universities. ICC participants include representatives of the California Department of Education and local K–12, University of California, California State University, California Community Colleges, Independent Colleges and Universities and the California Postsecondary Education Commission.

Issues being addressed include recommending standards for high school graduation in English and Mathematics, the transition from high school to college, preparation of students for college, teacher recruitment and professional development, collaborative applications of information technology, and community college transfer. The Superintendent appoints CDE and local representatives to the ICC. The ICC has a committee structure which varies by year according to the annual work plan.

There are also other intersegmental processes and forums which vary by subject area, but the ICC is the principal and formal mechanism.

Program/Services

The ICC conducts various services including College Making It Happen, and Transfer Making It Happen, both aimed at increasing college going and successful transition. It also advocates for issues of mutual interest and serves as the convener for inter-segmental collaboration. Ad hoc publications and events are sponsored.

Funding

Each segment pays dues.

Results

The ICC is a policy making and deliberative body.
