Dear Publishers of Mathematics Instructional Materials for Kindergarten Through Grade Eight:

Shipping of Materials for Legal and Social Compliance Reviews
(Publisher Bulletin 2007-12)

Materials submitted for the 2007 Mathematics Primary Adoption for Kindergarten through Grade Eight (K-8) must be reviewed for legal and social compliance (LC). For LC review, publishers will provide one complete set of program materials to the appropriate LC review site identified in this bulletin.

This bulletin includes information about when, where, and how to ship your programs for LC review. Each program(s) has been assigned to one of six LC review sites. Each LC review site has a group of trained individuals who will review your program(s).

This set of materials is in addition to materials you previously distributed to the Learning Resource Display Centers (LRDCs) as part of the submission process on April 12, 2007. For more information about LC review, you may refer to the 2007 Mathematics Primary Adoption—Publishers Invitation to Submit (ITS) on pages 30-32.

LC Review Site and Shipping Address

Attachment A identifies the LC review site for each program. Attachment B lists shipping addresses for each LC review site. Publishers should use Attachment A to locate their program(s) and the corresponding review site and then refer to Attachment B for the appropriate shipping address of each review site. Publishers with multiple submissions may be directed to send programs to multiple review sites, so carefully review the list of designated review sites provided in Attachment A.

Please note in Attachment B, for programs assigned to the Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources (CFIR) review site, DO NOT ship a set of materials for LC review to the California Department of Education (CDE). The CFIR Office does not have space for another set of materials and does not need another set of materials to conduct the selected LC reviews.

Due Dates

One set of program materials shall be received by the designated LC review site on or before 5:00 p.m. (PST) on May 15, 2007. LC reviews will be conducted during the months of May and June 2007. Publishers will receive copies of any citations from the LC review in early July 2007, and will be required to respond to the citations by August 6, 2007 (refer to the ITS, Schedule of Significant Events, page 11).

Shipping of Components

Please send ONLY the electronic and print materials. DO NOT send manipulative kits.

Publishers will need to provide all components of the program, with the exception of the manipulative kits, for this review. For example, if the program is designated as a K-5 basic program, then ship all components for each grade level to the designated review site. If the program includes multiple copies of a component, e.g. you package student assessments in packages of ten, then ship only one copy of the student assessment component.

Technology-Based Programs

For technology-based programs, provide a hard copy of all print and pictures contained in the program (refer to the ITS, page 18). Also, provide complete access instructions for online programs or other necessary passwords for your program, and identify the technology contact person and their phone number and e-mail.

Labeling of Materials

As specified in the ITS on page 31, each set of materials must be clearly labeled on the outside of the box "Legal Compliance Review for the 2007 Mathematics Adoption," and must otherwise comply with the distribution requirements on pages 24-27 of the ITS. Please follow these labeling instructions, and in addition, each item should also be labeled “Legal and Social Compliance Review”.

Packing List

You must include a packing list with your shipment to aid staff in inventorying materials and help to ensure that all of your submitted materials are reviewed.

If you have questions regarding this bulletin, please contact Suzanne Rios, Administrator, Instructional Resources Unit, Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division, at 916-319-0665 or by e-mail at srios@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Thomas Adams, Director
Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division
