Dear Publishers of Mathematics Instructional Materials for Kindergarten Through Grade Eight:
2007 MATHEMATICS PRIMARY ADOPTION:
FINAL PRINT EDITION VERIFICATION PROCESS
(PUBLISHER BULLETIN 2007-23)
During spring 2008, the California Department of Education (CDE) will conduct a verification process to ensure final print versions of adopted programs contain the approved corrections. This bulletin includes information regarding the items that adopted publishers will need to submit for this review.
A final step in the adoption process is a review by the CDE to ensure final print versions of adopted programs reflect the approved corrections, which include approved edits and corrections, legal and social compliance revisions, State Board of Education (SBE) approved errata and additional publisher errata as authorized by the SBE on November 8, 2007.
Additional Publisher Errata
As part of the SBE adoption action for the 2007 Mathematics Primary Adoption, the SBE authorized publishers to submit additional errata for review and approval. Specifically, the SBE authorized the CDE, or their designee, to verify additional submissions of publisher errata that address corrections of spelling, capitalization, computation, and punctuation, including corrections to accurately and fully quote the state standards in all instructional materials. Additional publisher errata that are within the scope of the SBE action may be submitted for verification as part of this review.
Review Materials
Publishers will need to submit final print versions of program components to a review location (to be determined). Plan to send components that include previously approved corrections or additional publisher errata authorized by the SBE action. DO NOT SEND program components that do not include changes.
To facilitate the review of your program, please plan to include or provide this additional information when you send your final print versions to the review location:
Exact Dates and Review Location (to be determined)
The CDE will contract with a County Office of Education, Learning Resource Display Center, to conduct the verification review of final print versions. At this time, the exact review location and dates have not been determined. Publishers will be notified in early 2008 of the exact review location to send one set of program components for review, along with the other requested information.
Program Set-up and Retrieval
Publishers should plan to bring or ship program materials to the review location no sooner than March 1, 2008. Publishers may be required to set-up materials (prior to the review) and retrieve materials (after the review). For electronic programs or components, plan to provide the equipment needed for reviewers to verify the corrections. Publishers should make arrangements for computer access (only 1 computer per program) and internet access as necessary.
Review Results
Publishers will receive a letter with results following the verification process. In the unlikely case that we find required changes are not made in the final editions, then publishers may be required to issue errata to all districts that have purchased your programs (and make the change in all future printings of your materials) or recall the material.

Here are steps you can take immediately as you plan for the upcoming verification review of your final print editions:
