PUBLISHER CONTACT WITH CRP/IMAP MEMBERS

Publishers can not contact CRP or IMAP members to discuss anything related to the evaluation of the submissions or the potential inclusion of submissions on the list of adopted instructional materials. The exceptions are during the specified times in the Schedule of Significant Events (training and deliberations) when contact shall be made in the prescribed manner. CRP and IMAP members are required to report any inappropriate contact to the California Department of Education (CDE). Such inappropriate contact may lead to disqualification of a publisher’s submission(s) from further consideration in the 2008 RLA/ELD Primary Adoption, legal action, or both.

However, publishers may continue to contact those CRP and IMAP members with whom they have meetings in the normal course of the members’ school district, county office of education, local school board, or work-related duties. CRP and IMAP members shall not discuss any submission(s) under consideration with publishers.

A list of the CRP and IMAP members participating in this adoption is enclosed in Attachment B.

Presentation Guidelines

The following are some general guidelines for publisher presentations. Please review the “Publisher Presentation Tips” in Attachment D for additional information about these presentations.

  • Publishers will be given time to set-up their rooms (15 minutes) and time to clear materials from the room following the presentation (10 minutes).
  • Each presentation session will have distinct timed segments: presentation, CRP/IMAP question and answer, and panel discussion.
  • It is suggested that publishers spend the major portion of their allocated presentation time presenting a balanced discussion of the instructional materials and how they relate to the Framework, content standards, and the evaluation criteria.
  • If there are no questions from the panel members, or the panel decides there is no need for discussion, the panel will offer the balance of the time period (15 minutes or whatever time remains) to the publisher for additional presentation. Be prepared to take advantage of this opportunity to further present your program.

The CRP and IMAP members will be assured of a professionally rewarding experience as publishers observe these guidelines and work in collaboration with the panel facilitators and the CDE staff on the day of presentations.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS

Publishers are responsible for providing the equipment they need during their presentations or making arrangements with the hotel to provide the equipment; this includes internet access if you require it for your presentation. Publishers should ensure that they have enough staff to set-up instructional material displays in the allotted time, and clear the displays from the room following the presentations.

If you have any questions regarding the publisher presentations or your assigned time, or if you are unable to participate in the scheduled publisher presentations, please contact Suzanne Rios, Administrator, Instructional Resources Unit, at 916-319-0665 or by e-mail at srios@cde.ca.gov.

We are looking forward to working with you on this adoption and appreciate your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Thomas Adams, Director
Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division
