File Structure: Staff Demographics 2001 & 2002

File structure for statewide staff demographics, such as, gender, race/ethnicity, education level, and years of service for teachers, administrators, and pupil services staff.

File Name: paift01.exe and paift02.exe

Note: This file contains numerous records and must be viewed with a high powered database software (i.e., Access, Dbase, Foxpro, etc.). It cannot be viewed by a software that limits the number of records it can read (i.e., Excel).

CDS_CODE

Character

14

This 14-digit code is the official, unique identification of a school within California. The first two digits identify the county, the next five digits identify the school district, and the last seven digits identify the school.

REC_ID

Character

6

This 6-digit code is the unique record identification code assigned to each certificated staff member in California public schools. The code is an identifier with no meaning. The code assigned to a record for any particular year will not match the code assigned to the same staff members' record for prior or future years. Therefore, the code cannot be used to match records over time.

GENDER

Character

This field is a coded field identifying gender. The gender is coded as follows:

  • M = Male
  • F = Female

ED_LEVEL

Character

This is a coded field for staff member's highest educational level (honorary degrees not included). The highest educational levels are coded as follows:

  • 0 = Not Reported
  • 1 = Doctorate
  • 2 = Master's degree plus 30 or more semester hours
  • 3 = Master's degree
  • 4 = Bachelor's degree plus 30 or more semester hours
  • 5 = Bachelor's degree
  • 6 = Less than bachelor's degree

IND

This field indicates whether the certificated staff belongs to or identifies herself/himself with the "AMERICAN INDIAN OR ALASKA NATIVE" racial/ethnic designation.
