April 16, 2008
Dear Select County and District Superintendents and Language Census Coordinators:
As of April 15, 2008, we have not received Language Census data for one or more schools in your district or county office. Language Census data were due to the California Department of Education on April 3, 2008.
The data reported on the Language Census are required by federal case law. In addition, there are remaining reporting requirements under Education Code sections 62002 and 62003. The submission of the Language Census for each school is a district/county office responsibility and must be completed for all public schools except preschools, children’s centers, adult schools, regional occupational centers, and state special schools. Based on federal case law, all charter schools must also submit Language Census data.
Enclosed is a list of the schools that our records show as missing Language Census data. If one or more of these schools on the enclosed list are closed or temporarily not in operation, complete the List of Expected Schools with this information and fax this form to the Data Management Division at 916-327-0195. This list was mailed to you on February 1, 2008. The List of Expected Schools may also be downloaded from the Language Census Coordinator Login page at http://dq.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/lclogin.asp.
We have received Language Census data from most of the districts and counties in the state, but we need all submissions before we can certify and release data.
If you have any questions regarding this subject, please contact Dorothy Aicega, Associate Governmental Program Analyst, Educational Demographics, at 916-327-0208 or by e-mail at daicega@cde.ca.gov.
Sincerely,
Wiiliam L. Padia, Deputy Superintendent
Assessment and Accountability Branch
