Language Census File Layout 2008

This document contains the file specifications for the Language Census Data Entry Assistant (LCDEA) software. Files in the format outlined below will be compatible with the LCDEA and may be imported into the software.

The Language Census Data Entry Assistant software will accept a single file containing all four record types. The supported file formats are comma delimited, tab delimited, or fixed layout. Comma delimited files have a comma separating each field, and all character fields are enclosed in double quotes ("). Tab delimited files have a tab character separating each field, and all character fields are enclosed in double quotes (").

Note: To print the file layout, you should set your printer to landscape.

Changes to 2008: Fillers removed and fields renamed.

Record Types: The Language Census data layout includes four record types.

Record Type A – All data except for part 1 and part 5.A. One record for every school in the district.

Record Type B – Part 1 English learner (EL) and fluent-English-proficient (FEP) data. One record for every school, language, and EL or FEP combination where there are students.

Record Type C – Teachers providing primary language instruction and bilingual paraprofessionals (Part 5.A). One record for every school and language where there are teachers and/or paraprofessionals providing services to English learners.

Record Type D – District contact and certification data. One record for the district.
