This file provides the demographic data listed below. The data are collected at the district and/or county office of education level and are not available at the school level. This file is not a summary of data reported on the School Information Form (SIF).


Classified Staff

In single-school school districts, classified staff are reported on the school form and are in the SIFA_E98.exe file. 

GATE Enrollment

Note: This file does not contain the county office of education name or district name. To obtain these data, users must download the public schools file and match records by the CDS_CODE field. See description of CDS_Code field below.

ETHNIC

This is a coded field for racial/ethnic designation. The racial/ethnic designations are coded as follows:

Code 1 = American Indian or Alaska Native

Code 2 = Asian

Code 3 = Pacific Islander

Code 4 = Filipino

Code 5 = Hispanic or Latino

Code 6 = African American, not Hispanic (formerly known as Black, not Hispanic)

Code 7 = White, not Hispanic

Code 8 = Multiple or No Response (Beginning in 1998–99)

Number of gifted and talented students.

Definition of Gifted and Talented Education (GATE): Gifted and talented students are defined in the Education Code section 55201 as pupils enrolled in a public elementary or secondary school who are identified as possessing demonstrated or potential abilities that give evidence of high performance capability. High performance capability is defined by each school district governing board. Each district shall use one or more of the following categories in defining the capability: intellectual, creative, specific academic, leadership, high achievement, performing and visual arts talent, or any other criterion proposed by the district and approved by the State Board of Education in the district's GATE application (Education Code Section 52202).
