This file provides the demographic data listed below. The data are collected at the district and/or county office of education level and are not available at the school level. This file is not a summary of data reported on the School Information Form (SIF).

Definition of Service Learning: Service-Learning is an instructional strategy that uses community service to achieve educational goals. The following five elements must be evident in order for an activity to be classified as Service-Learning. Service Learning is a method: 

  • whereby students learn and develop through active participation in thoughtfully organized service that is conducted in and meets the needs of a community; 
  • which is coordinated with an elementary school, secondary school, institutions of higher education, or community service programs, and with the community; 
  • which helps foster civic responsibility;
  • which is integrated into and enhances the academic curriculum of the students; and 
  • which provides structured and time for the students to reflect on the service experience.
