File Structure: Cohort Outcome Data 2010-12

File structure for the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) cohort outcome data reported by race/ethnicity, program participation, and gender for years 2009-10 through the current year.

File Name: cohort10.txt, cohort11.txt, and cohort12.txt

This file provides the cohort outcome data by sub group and racial/ethnic designation. Data are provided at the state, county, district, and school levels.

Field Name	Type Field	Width	Description
CDS	Character	14	This 14-digit code is the official, unique identification of a school within California. The first two digits identify the county, the next five digits identify the school district, and the last seven digits identify the school.
Name	Character	90	Agency name.
AggLevel	Character	1	This is a coded field for identifying the aggregate level. The aggregate levels are coded as follows. D = Local educational agency totals (includes districts and direct funded charter schools) O = County totals S = School totals T = State totals
DFC	Character	1	Direct funded charter indicator. Indicates whether or not the agency is a direct funded charter. This field is coded as follows: Y = Yes, direct funded charter N = No, not a direct funded charter
Subgroup	Character	10	This is a coded field for identifying subgroups of students, such as, program participation and gender. The subgroups are coded as follows: Program Participation EL – English learners MIG – Migrant Education SD – Socioeconomically Disadvantaged SE – Special Education Gender FEM – Female MAL – Male Other All – Total of all subgroups
Subgrouptype	Character	10	This is a coded field for identifying racial/ethnic designation. The racial/ethnic designations are coded as follows: 0 – Not Reported 1 – American Indian or Alaskan Native, not Hispanic 2 – Asian, not Hispanic 3 – Pacific Islander, not Hispanic 4 – Filipino, not Hispanic 5 – Hispanic or Latino 6 – African American, not Hispanic 7 – White, not Hispanic 9 – Two or more races, not Hispanic All – Total of all races/ethnicities
NumCohort	Character	10	Number of students in the cohort.
NumGraduates	Character	10	Number of students who graduated from the cohort.
Cohort Graduation Rate	Decimal	10, 2	Rate of students who graduated from the cohort.
NumDropouts	Character	10	Number of students who dropped out from the cohort.
Cohort Dropout Rate	Decimal	10, 2	Rate of students who dropped out from the cohort.
NumStillEnrolled	Character	10	Number of students from the cohort that are still enrolled.
Still Enrolled Rate	Decimal	10, 2	Rate of students from the cohort that are still enrolled.
NumSpecialEducation	Character	10	Number of special education students in the cohort.
Special Ed Completers Rate	Decimal	10, 2	Rate of special education students in the cohort who completed high school.
NumGED	Character	10	Number of students in the cohort who passed the General Educational Development (GED) test.
GED Rate	Decimal	10, 2	Rate of students in the cohort who passed the GED test.
Year	Character	4	Year of data.

Please note the following when using this data.

County-wide rates and data are displayed for County Office of Education’s (COEs) and COE administered schools.
District-wide rates and data are displayed for Alternative Schools Accountability Model (ASAM) schools that are not Direct Funded Charters and not administrated by a COE.
Data for Direct Funded Charter schools are not included in their authorizing agency’s totals.
Blank fields or fields marked with an asterisk (*) are used to protect student privacy where there are ten or fewer students.
