UPDATE ON SPRING 2014 SMARTER BALANCED FIELD TEST

In a letter dated January 7, 2014, sent to county and district superintendents and charter school administrators, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson provided an update on the Spring 2014 Smarter Balanced Field Test, and announced a change in the name of the new assessment system. Initially referred to as the California Measurement of Academic Performance and Progress (CalMAPP), the new system will now be known as the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). In the coming weeks, detailed support and administration documents for the field test will be released. In the meantime, updated information about the field test is available on the CDE Spring 2014 Smarter Balanced Web page.

As described in FLASH #83, the CDE will extract demographic and program-level data for the Spring 2014 Field Test from the CALPADS Operational Data Store (ODS) to upload to the CAASPP Field Test registration system on behalf of LEAs. The CDE will announce when and how often data from the CALPADS ODS will be extracted for upload into the test registration system once a schedule is established. LEAs are encouraged to keep student enrollment, demographics, and program information in CALPADS up-to-date and accurate.
