File Structure - Course Data 2006

Course data by assignment code from the California Basic Educational Data System (CBEDS) Professional Assignment Information Form (PAIF).

File Name: ASSIGN06.DBF

This file contains the course data by assignment code from the Administrative Manual for CBEDS Coordinators and School Principals. This file is used to reference and match assignment codes to the PAIF files: ASGNCODE and PAIF05 (the PAIF file and the ASSIGN file must be of the same year to match staff identification codes -- "rec_id").

Note: This file contains numerous records and must be viewed with a high powered database software (i.e., Access, Dbase, Foxpro, etc.). It cannot be viewed by a software that limits the number of records it can read (i.e., Excel).

Description

REC_ID

Character

10

This 10-digit code is the unique record identification code assigned to each certificated staff member in California public schools for 2006-07. This code is assigned by the California Department of Education for this year and has no meaning locally. The code assigned to a record for 2006-07 will not match the code assigned to the same staff members' record for prior or future years. Therefore, the code cannot be used to match records over time.

CDS_CODE

Character

14

This 14-digit code is the official, unique identification of the school to which the staff member is assigned. The first two digits identify the county, the next five digits identify the school district, and the last seven digits identify the school. If a staff member works at more than one school, all data regarding the assignments will be shown at the school with the largest portion of assignments; this may result in small data anomalies.

ASN_CODE

This 4-digit code is from an extensive list of assignment code numbers for teaching assignments, administrative assignments and pupil services assignments. For a list of all codes and course and assignment titles, use the file asgncode.exe.
