CDEfisc message of August 28, 2012 to County Offices of Education providing information about the Mandate Block Grant for fiscal year 2012-13.

Subject: 2012–13 Mandate Block Grant Letter of Intent

Please forward this e-mail to the school districts and charter schools in your county.

The California Department of Education (CDE), School Fiscal Services Division is now accepting Letters of Intent to Participate in the Mandate Block Grant (MBG) program for fiscal year 2012–13.

Commencing with the 2012–13 fiscal year the MBG was established by Senate Bill (SB) 1016, Section 71, (Chapter 38, Statutes of 2012) with an appropriation of $166,609,000. The MBG is available to county offices of education, school districts, and charter schools that elect to participate.

County offices of education, school districts, and charter schools (both locally and direct funded) have each received an individualized Letter of Intent to participate in the MBG. The Letter of Intent for your local educational agency was e-mailed to the superintendent or administrator indicated on the California School Directory at http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/sd/index.asp. Please be sure to check that e-mail address for the MBG notification. If you are having trouble locating the Letter of Intent sent to your LEA, please notify mandate@cde.ca.gov and request another copy.

A completed Letter of Intent to participate in the MBG must be submitted to CDE by October 1, 2012 to receive 2012–13 MBG funding.

The CDE has established a new Mandate Block Grant web page at: http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/ca/mandatebg.asp. The site includes information on the MBG as well as links to the letter and a sample of the Letter of Intent that was sent to your agency contact.

Questions regarding the Mandate Block Grant should be addressed to mandate@cde.ca.gov.
