Winter 2012 Release

We are still targeting the release of the Winter 2012 data collections for January 15, 2013 with due date of February 28, 2013. We are currently focused on testing the Title I data collections; EIA and remaining data collections will be tested in early January. At this time, the only significant changes since last year include:

  • Title I Part A Indirect Cost Rate formula now based on 915 Procedure in California School Accounting Manual (CSAM). For details on the formula, refer to page 915-7 of the CSAM. (PDF; 3MB)
  • Title II Part D no longer included in Federal Transferability; now only Title I Part A and Title II Part A
  • Small districts ranking exception added to the Title I Part A School Allocations
Upcoming Training Webinar

We are planning to host a webinar in conjunction with the release of Winter 2012 data collections. The training will cover the following areas:

  • A general overview of CARS (terminology, user roles, navigation),
  • A high level review of how to complete each data entry form
  • Reports
  • Tips and things know related to the system and data entry forms
Screen Shots of Data Entry Forms

We plan on sharing screen shots of the Winter 2012 data entry forms.

Tips for Printing

In some cases, LEAs find the font sizes in CARS standard reports too small. However, the font sizes in the reports are standard and cannot be changed. One alternative LEAs might consider is to print a scaled up version of the data entry forms. Tips for printing larger versions of data entry forms using Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome are as follows.

Internet Explorer

  • Click File (from the browser menu)
  • Scroll down to Print Preview and click
  • Click Settings Icon
  • Uncheck “Enable Shrink to Fit
  • Change “Shrink to Fit” to “Custom"
  • Enter 75 (Note: When using the Custom feature in Internet Explorer, the percentage should not go past 75%. Anything larger than 75% will cause the information on the bottom right-hand corner to disappear.)
  • Click the printer icon

Google Chrome

  • Click Customize and control icon (three lines in upper right-hand corner)
  • Scroll down to click Print
  • Change from “Default” to “Minimum”
  • Click Print

  • Click File (from the browser menu)
  • Click Print Preview
  • Click Page Setup
  • Change all margins to 0.0
  • Click Print
