Letter Head: Jack O'Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, California Department of Education

April 1, 2009

Dear County Office of Education Chief Business Officials:

REVISED 2008-09 LOTTERY REVENUE PROJECTION

The California Department of Education (CDE) is revising its projection of lottery revenues for fiscal year 2008-09 to reflect the Lottery Commission’s revision of its lottery sales projection from $3.2 billion to $2.93 billion ($1.134 billion to $1.027 billion for education). CDE is lowering its fiscal year 2008-09 projection of lottery revenues for education from $137 per unit of average daily attendance (ADA) to $122 per ADA (from $118 to $109 for unrestricted lottery revenues, and from $19 to $13 for Proposition 20 revenues). We will continue to monitor sales and advise you of any further changes to the projection. The 2009-10 per ADA estimates will be released after the Lottery Commission releases its 2009-10 revenue projections in late June 2009.

The CDE requests that county superintendents of schools inform local educational agencies immediately of the revised projections. If you have any questions regarding lottery revenue projections, please contact Stel Cordano, Fiscal Consultant, Office of Principal Apportionment and Special Education, at 916-327-0398 or by e-mail at scordano@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Scott Hannan, Director
School Fiscal Services Division
