2009-10 Recertified Advance Apportionment Letter

Letter Head: Jack O'Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, California Department of Education

August 20, 2009

Dear County Superintendents of Schools, Auditors, Treasurers, and Special Education Local Plan Area Directors:

The 2009-10 Advance Apportionment was recertified after the enactment of Assembly Bill 1 of the 2009-10 Fourth Extraordinary Session (ABX4 1) (Chapter 1, Statutes of 2009) and implementing legislation. The recertified Advance Apportionment total is $23,044,612,482.

The recertified 2009-10 Advance Apportionment is calculated by applying adjustments authorized in statute to the 2008-09 Second Principal Apportionment data pursuant to California Education Code Section 41330. A summary of calculations to determine the recertified 2009-10 Advance Apportionment is enclosed. Current year data will be reflected through updates at the subsequent 2009-10 First, Second, and Annual Apportionments beginning in February 2010. Local educational agencies should budget accordingly.

County superintendents should advise districts and charter schools of this apportionment as soon as possible by providing them a copy of this letter. A copy of this letter and the applicable apportionment exhibits are available on the California Department of Education Web site at

If you have any further questions regarding this apportionment, or need assistance, please contact the Office of Principal Apportionment and Special Education, at 916-324-4541 or by e-mail at
