Summer Food Service

NOTE: The application due date for this program has passed.

Funding provides reimbursement for meals served to children who are on school vacation in areas where 50 percent of the children qualify for free or reduced-priced school meals. Camp sites may receive reimbursement for serving meals to children who are income eligible. Non-school agencies may be reimbursed for snacks in after-school settings.

Criteria
Summer sites must be established to serve all children in the community while on school vacation and not enrolled for day care. Meals must be served to all children at the same time and in the same eating area. Sponsoring agencies serving snacks after school, must serve meals during summer vacation. Application results are provided within 30 days.

Entities eligible to be a Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) sponsor include public and private schools, Indian tribal governments; units of local, municipal, or county governments; and other public or private nonprofit agencies.

Allocation Formula Sponsors receive reimbursement for meal and administrative expenses. For meal expenses, reimbursement is the lower of two factors calculated on a year-to-date formula: actual cost or meals multiplied by the meal reimbursement rate. For administrative expenses, reimbursement is the lowest of three factors on a year-to-date formula: actual cost, meals multiplied by the administrative reimbursement rate, or the sponsor's estimated budget. Reimbursement payments are based upon monthly claims submitted by the sponsor (agency).
