Funding Description
Note: Much of the information provided below is outdated. Funding for this program is now unrestricted pursuant to SBX3 4 (Chapter 12, Statutes of 2009), enacted in February 2009. For additional information, please refer to the Action on 2008 and 2009 Budget Acts Web page.The program encourages excellent and experienced teachers to teach in "staff priority schools" and to assist beginning teachers and teacher interns during their induction and first years of teaching.

Required Eligibility Criteria | Local educational agencies must be considered “staff priority schools,” which are schools that have an aggregate API score that was at or below the 30th percentile relative to other public schools in the state in any of the five previous school years. Juvenile court schools, county community schools, or community day schools operated by a county office of education can also apply for funding. |
Other Eligibility Considerations | Eligible teachers must meet the following criteria: (1) have a professional credential that allows the teacher to teach at the grade level and subject matter of the beginning teacher or intern; (2) have seven years or recent experience in the grade level and subject matter of the beginning teacher or intern; (3) teach in a staff priority school for at least five years and assist at least one but no more than five beginning teachers or interns; and (4) meet the needs of the school and have a demonstrated ability to foster pupil achievement and learning as determined by the principal. |
