Advanced Placement Test Fee Reimbursement


Funding Description

The Advanced Placement (AP) Test Fee Reimbursement Program removes the financial barriers that prevent many low-income students in comprehensive high schools from taking the AP/IB course tests. Funding supports the payment of AP test fees for eligible students. The request for applications has important information and forms, but the online application will not be available until June 1, 2011.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria Low-income students who are enrolled in an AP/IB class and plan to take the end-of-course AP/IB exams are eligible to participate in the program. Upon teacher recommendation, a low-income student who has previously taken an AP/IB class but not the exam may also be eligible to participate.
Other Eligibility Considerations Local educational agencies (LEAs) and individual schools must document the income eligibility of students participating in the program and maintain documentation of need at the school or LEA site for seven years.

Allocation Formula For fiscal year 2010-11, these funds are now flexible. From fiscal years 2008-09 through 2012-13, funding for the flexible programs will be based on base year 2007-08 or 2008-09 funding levels as specified in Education Code Section 42605. In the current state fiscal year, each LEA will receive the same percentage of the available funding as it received in the base year.

Other In the past, the AP Test Fee Reimbursement Program has been funded with state and federal funds. As of May 2009, the CDE will use only federal funds to reimburse LEAs.
