Regional Occupational Centers/Programs


Funding Description

Before 2008-09, the funds were restricted to the Regional Occupational Centers/Programs (ROC/Ps), which allocated funds to school districts and county offices of education (local educational agencies). The ROC/P programs provide valuable career and technical education to high school students 16 years of age and older, and adult students so they can (1) enter the workforce with skills and competencies to be successful; (2) pursue advanced training in postsecondary educational institutions; or (3) upgrade existing skills and knowledge.

Allocation Formula Of the total $384,708,000 funding available, $345,078,000 is available in 2011-12 and $39,630,000 is deferred until 2012-13.

Funding for this program from fiscal years 2008-09 through 2014-15 will be based on 2007-08 funding levels. LEAs will receive the same percentage of the available funding as they received from the allocated funds in 2007-08.

Other The funding for this program is now flexible pursuant to California Education Code Section 42605. LEAs may utilize all of their program funds to provide services for the program or they may use all or part of their program funds for other educational purposes and/or other categorical programs.

Funds are paid through the Principal Apportionment. Principal Apportionment amounts are calculated three times for each fiscal year: The First Principal Apportionment (P-1) is certified by February 17th, the Second Principal Apportionment (P-2) is certified by July 2nd, and the Annual Apportionment is certified by February 20th of the following year (at the same time as the following year's P-1 certification).
