Funding Description

Recipients of the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) grant program are required to engage in work or work preparation activities. CalWORKs programs provide an array of welfare-to-work services. Child care is provided with state and federal funds in three stages. Stage 3 is administered by the CDE through its APPs. A family can move to this stage when it has exhausted its two-year limit in Stage 1 and/or Stage 2 (referred to as timing out), and for as long as the family remains otherwise eligible for child care services.

Eligible Applicants Institutions of higher education, local educational agencies, nonprofit organizations, other organizations or agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Section 18010 states, "Contractors that intend to accept the offer to continue services in the subsequent contract period shall respond to a Continued Funding Application request from the Child Development Division in accordance with the instructions and timelines specified in the request."

Allocation Formula Child Care and Development contracts are awarded through the Management Bulletin Continued Funding process. Reimbursements are provided to contractors in monthly apportionments.
