Ltr-07: Gifted and Talented Education Funding

Dear Superintendents of Local Educational Agencies:

2007-08 GIFTED AND TALENTED EDUCATION FUNDING

This letter provides information regarding the fiscal year (FY) 2007-08 local educational agency (LEAs) applications for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program funding. Gifted and Talented Education program funding is contingent upon the FY 2007-08 State Budget appropriation for GATE.

All LEAs requesting GATE funding for the first time and LEAs with expired applications as indicated on the list of LEA Application Renewal Dates are required to submit new applications to the California Department of Education (CDE) by June 15, 2007. All LEAs that have received multiple-year approvals for two, three, or five years that are not expired as indicated on the list of LEA Application Renewal Dates are required to submit Request for Continued Funding forms by June 15, 2007.

Approval of applications is based on the criteria in the State Board of Education Recommended Standards for Programs for Gifted and Talented Students. The 2007-08 GATE application template, Request for Continued funding form, State Board of Education Recommended Standards for approval of GATE Programs, List of LEA application renewal dates, and funding information are available at http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r12/gate07rfa.asp.
