Dear County Superintendents of Schools, Auditors, and Treasurers

NOTICE OF THE THIRD RECOVERY OF OVERPAYMENTS FOR THE
KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE THREE CLASS SIZE REDUCTION
PROGRAM FROM THE PRINCIPAL APPORTIONMENT
FISCAL YEAR 2004-05

This recovery of overpayment in the amount of $1,178,790, is made pursuant to California Education Code Section 52124(d). The overpaid amount to each district or charter school is based on its revised final entitlement, computed using the revised (audited) final enrollment counts submitted on form J-7CSR, as reduced by the amounts paid in previous apportionments and increased by any previous recoveries for 2004-05. Additionally, the revised final entitlement amounts have been reduced for those basic aid districts that selected the K-3 CSR program pursuant to Section 31 of Senate Bill 1108 (Chapter 216, Statutes of 2004). In accordance with California Education Code Section 52125(d), overpaid funds will be recovered from the next monthly principal apportionment payment.

The enclosed schedule indicates the amount overpaid to each district or charter school in your county. The State Controller will deduct the overpayment from the September 2006 Principal Apportionment. The county superintendents of schools are requested to immediately inform each affected district or charter school of the adjustment and provide each with a copy of this letter and schedule.
