Ltrfinal-06: K-3 CSR

Letter Head: Jack O'Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Phone number 916-319-0800

June 29, 2007

Dear County Superintendents of Schools, Auditors, and Treasurers:

This apportionment in the amount of $31,744,000, is made from funds provided by Item 6110-234-0001 of the Budget Act of 2006 (Chapter 47, Statutes of 2006) in support of the Kindergarten Through Grade Three (K-3) Class Size Reduction (CSR) Program. Funds are apportioned at $1,024 per pupil in an Option 1 class (full day program), and at $512 per pupil in an Option 2 class (half day program). The apportionment for each local educational agency (LEA) is based on actual enrollment in participating classes as submitted on the form J-7 CSR, less any amount received in the advance and provisional apportionments.

Direct-funded and locally funded charter schools that applied for the K-3 CSR program on their own behalf are listed separately in the enclosed apportionment schedule. Funding for charter schools that did not apply on their own behalf is included in the chartering agency's entitlement if the chartering agency included charter school enrollment data in its J-7 CSR.

Warrants will be mailed to each county treasurer approximately four weeks from the date of this Notice. For standardized account code structure coding, use Resource Code 1300, Class Size Reduction, Grades K-3, or Resource Code 0000, Unrestricted, and Revenue Object Code 8434, Class Size Reduction, Grades K-3. County superintendents of schools are requested to inform LEAs, including applicant charter schools, immediately of this apportionment.

In an effort to streamline the state apportionment process, we will continue to post the schedules of apportionment on the California Department of Education (CDE) Web site but eliminate them from our mailings. To view the schedule of apportionment showing the list of school districts by county that generated each payment, please visit the CDE K-3 CSR program Web site at County superintendents of schools are requested to inform LEAs, including applicant charter schools, immediately about this apportionment.
