Dear Select County Superintendents of Schools, Auditors, and Treasurers:
NOTICE OF THE SECOND APPORTIONMENT FOR THE
CALIFORNIA SCHOOL AGE FAMILIES EDUCATION PROGRAM
FISCAL YEAR 2008-09
This apportionment, in the amount of $21,084,346, is made from funds provided in Item 6110-198-0001 of the Budget Act of 2008 (Chapter 268 as amended by Chapter 269, Statutes of 2008) in support of the California School Age Families Education (Cal-SAFE) Program as established in the California Education Code (EC), commencing with Section 54740. Cal-SAFE funding provides support to pregnant and parenting teens and their children.
This apportionment advances funding in an amount equal to 40 percent of the estimated annual earnings for each local educational agency (LEA) for fiscal year 2008-09 less any prior-year overpayment. Estimated earnings are based on the fiscal year 2007-08 final entitlement for each LEA. Final entitlements for 2008-09 will be calculated based on actual data reported for the 2008-09 fiscal year.
County superintendents of schools are requested to inform LEAs, including direct-funded charter schools, immediately of this apportionment. Warrants will be mailed to county treasurers approximately four weeks from the date of this Notice. For standardized account code structure coding, please use the following: Resource Code 6091 for Cal-SAFE Academic and Supportive Services; Resource Code 6092 for Cal-SAFE Child Care and Development Services; Resource Code 6093 for Cal-SAFE County Classroom (for services using the former Pregnant Minor Program funding model); and Revenue Object Code 8590, All Other State Revenue.
