Ltr7-06: Chief Business Officer Training
April 18, 2007
Dear Select County Superintendents of Schools, Auditors, and Treasurers:
NOTICE OF THE SECOND APRIL 2007 APPORTIONMENT FOR THE
CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER TRAINING PROGRAM
FISCAL YEAR 2006-07
This apportionment, in the amount of $13,500, is made from funds provided by Schedule 2 of Item 6110-491 of the Budget Act of 2006 (Chapter 47, Statutes of 2006) in support of the Chief Business Officer (CBO) Training Program established pursuant to Senate Bill 352 (Chapter 356, Statutes of 2005).
The intent of this program is to provide incentive funding to county offices of education, school districts, and direct-funded charter schools to train their CBO and CBO candidates in the areas of school finance, school operations, and leadership. SB 352 provides $3,000 per candidate, and training priority is given to applicant school districts and county offices of education that are under state administration and to those whose financial statements have been certified as qualified or negative within the past five years. The first 50 percent is allocated upon a candidate’s approval by the State Board of Education (SBE) and verification of acceptance into a training program; the second 50 percent is allocated upon completion of the training. This apportionment reflects the second and final 50 percent of funding to local educational agencies (LEAs) that have SBE-approved training candidates and that have provided verification of program completion.
Warrants will be mailed to county treasurers approximately four weeks from the date of this Notice. For standardized account code structure coding, use Resource Code 7810, Other State: Chief Business Officer Training Program (SB 352), and Revenue Object Code 8590, All Other State Revenue. County superintendents of schools are requested to inform LEAs, including direct-funded charter schools, immediately of this apportionment.
In an effort to streamline the apportionment process, we will continue to post the schedules of apportionment on the California Department of Education (CDE) Web site but eliminate them from our mailings. To view the schedule of apportionment showing how much is being paid to each LEA recipient, please visit the CDE CBO Web site at http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r14/cbot06result.asp.
