Funding supports intensive instruction and services for eligible students in the class of 2007 and the class of 2008 who are required to pass the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) and have failed one or both parts of the examination. Intensive instruction and services may include, but are not limited to, all of the following: individual or small group instruction; the hiring of additional teachers; purchasing, scoring, and reviewing diagnostic assessments; counseling; designing instruction to meet specific needs of eligible pupils; and appropriate teacher training to meet the needs of eligible pupils. As a condition of receiving funds, each local educational agency (LEA) must meet certain obligations and ensure that each student receives intensive instruction and services.
