Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:
TITLE III FUNDING, IMMIGRANT EDUCATION PROGRAM SUBGRANT:
LOCAL EDUCATIONAL AGENCIES REQUIRED TO APPLY VIA A CONSORTIUM
Under Title III of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001, Section 3114 (d) the California Department of Education (CDE) provides formula subgrant awards to local educational agencies (LEAs) that enroll one or more Immigrant students. The TItle III, Section 3114 (d) funds are used to provide supplementary programs and services to immigrant students.
Based on the data reported in the 2007-08 Student National Origin Report, your LEA is scheduled for an estimated Title III, Section 3114 (d), NCLB, Immigrant student subgrant in 2009-10. The estimated per-pupil allocation in 2009-10 is $95. CDE has determined that a state educational agency shall not award a Title III subgrant in an amount that is less than $10,000. In order to access NCLB, Title III funds, LEAs scheduled to receive a subgrant of less than $10,000 must join a consortium where the subgrant generated by the participating LEAs collectively equals or surpasses $10,000.
If the LEA wishes to apply for a TItle III, Section 3114 (d), NCLB, Immigrant Education Program subgrant in 2009-10, the LEA must complete the online consortium application along with each consortium member, on or before September 30,2009. For the application and all related information such as eligibility amounts, assurances, the apportionment schedule, or clarification regarding consortium lead responsibilities, please visit the Title III Consortia Online Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r22/imm09rfa.asp. The application will require your PIN and Password.
NOTE: For security purposes, your password will arrive in a separate document at or around the same time as this letter.
