The School Community Violence Prevention Program provides grants of up to $500,000 for a five-year period for school districts or county offices of education wishing to address school safety and violence prevention issues. Approximately 10 percent of the funds will be awarded to quality projects from rural school districts in California. New this year will be an additional set aside of 20 percent for quality projects that focus on gang violence prevention. Applicants are required to submit a Request to Apply, which includes portions of the school safety plan from each site identified in the grant application. The Request to Apply is due December 14, 2007 by 5 p.m. Questions must be submitted in writing only to Stephanie Papas at spapas@cde.ca.gov. Questions will be answered until February 8, 2008.
