Dear District and County Superintendents of Schools and Tobacco-Use Prevention Education Coordinators:
The California Department of Education (CDE) is pleased to announce the release of the 2008 Cohort D Request for Applications (RFAs) to fund Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) competitive grants.
The posted RFA package outlines submission requirements, grant conditions, and the application review processes for new and continuing grants for grades nine through twelve TUPE programs. It is accessible on the CDE Web site at http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/af/. County offices of education, school districts, and direct-funded charter schools that meet criteria specified within this RFA are eligible to apply for both programs. If your agency is interested in applying for these funds, Attachment 1 of the RFA must be completed and returned to the CDE by January 24, 2008.
The Legislature is expected to appropriate funding for this program through the 2008-09 Budget Act. The funding source is the Cigarette and Tobacco Products Surtax Fund, which provides tobacco surtax funds for school-based and community-based TUPE and reduction programs. Multiple grants will be awarded as a result of this RFA and subject to the availability of funding. Successful applicants will receive grants with three-year funding beginning June 29, 2008, and ending June 28, 2011.
If you have any questions regarding this RFA, please contact John Lagomarsino, Consultant, Safe and Healthy Kids Program Office at 916-323-1540 or by e-mail at jlagomarsino@cde.ca.gov.Sincerely,
[ORIGINAL SIGNED BY]
