California Student Survey Comparison Data

California Student Survey data collection on student alcohol, tobacco, other drug use, and violence.

State Comparison Data

The California Student Survey (CSS) is a statewide survey of alcohol, tobacco, other drug use, and school violence among secondary school students since 1985. The California Department of Education (CDE) has been a long time state agency partner in co-sponsoring the CSS, along with the Department of Alcohol and Drugs (ADP) and the Attorney General's Office. The CSS provides comparable statewide data to the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS). The 14th biennial CSS for 2011-12 is co-sponsored by CDE and ADP. Schools in the randomly-drawn statewide sample will be invited to participate in the CSS as part of their district’s regular California Healthy Kids Survey data collection. Participation incentives will be provided to reduce the cost and burden of the survey administration. More information about the CSS is available at WestEd External link opens in new window or tab. .

National Comparison Data

A number of national data collections provide data that are comparable to the data collected by the CHKS. Links to these data collections are provided below.
