Information Alert: Food Service Contracts

Nutrition Services Division Information Alert

To: Child and Adult Care Food Program, Independent Centers and Center Sponsors

Number: NSD-CACFP-01-2009

Attention: Food Service Director, Business Official

Date: July 2009

Subject: Food Service Contracts with Public School Districts

Reference: Management Bulletin USDA-CACFP-04-2008: Small Purchase Threshold for Day Care Centers, issued October 2008

This Information Alert reminds child care and adult care centers participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) that they may use public school districts as their food vendors. If a center contracts with a public school district, it may skip the formal bid process, which otherwise is a requirement for single purchases of $100,000 or more.

When a center purchases meals from a public school district, a standard food service agreement between the center and the school district is all that is required. You may contact your CACFP specialist to obtain this form.

If you have questions regarding purchasing meals from a school district, please contact the CACFP specialist assigned to your agency in the Child Nutrition Information Payment System (CNIPS). You will find a list of contact information for specialists in the Download Forms section of the CNIPS. You may also contact the Help Desk by phone at 800-952-5609, option 6.
