Nutrition Services Division Management Bulletin

To: Child and Adult Care Food Program Sponsors

Number: USDA-CACFP-17-2011

Attention: Child and Adult Care Food Program Sponsor, Business Official

Date: August 2011

Subject: 2010–11 Annual Mandatory Training for the Child and Adult Care Food Program Sponsors: Day Care Homes Component

Reference: Title 7, Code of Federal Regulations, Section 226.17(b)(10)

The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 requires all Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) sponsors to participate in an annual training. The Mandatory Training topic for this year for the CACFP day care home sponsors is “Tiering and Eligibility in the CACFP”. The course is available August 15–September 9, 2011.

Participation is Mandatory

The California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division, requires that day care home sponsors in the CACFP take the training on Tiering and Eligibility in the CACFP. According to U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, if a CACFP agency does not complete a state agency-required training program, the CACFP agency will be declared “seriously deficient” in their administration of the program and could be terminated from the program.

To fulfill the federal training requirement, each agency must ensure that a minimum of one person with administrative responsibility for the CACFP child care components completes the training. Potential training participants include CACFP agency principals, such as owners, board presidents, executive directors, program directors, and staff who have program responsibilities related to CACFP duties, specifically eligibility determination, claim preparation, monitoring, or training. There is no limitation on how many staff from an agency can take the course.

Please be advised that the training must be completed by Friday, September 9, 2011.

Training Documentation

The Fresno City College (FCC) Cal-Pro-NET Center will issue a Certificate of Completion to persons who successfully complete either the online or offline training and score 75 percent or above on the final course quiz. We recommend that you retain your Certificate as verification that you have completed the course and maintain it in your agency’s training file.
