CNIPS FDP Module Update Letter

Letter Head: Jack O'Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, California Department of Education

May 25, 2010

Child Nutrition Information and Payment System Implementation for
Food Distribution Program Recipient Agencies

Dear Food Distribution Program Recipient Agency:

The purpose of this correspondence is to provide you with an update on the status of the Child Nutrition Information and Payment System (CNIPS) Food Distribution Program (FDP) module.

The Nutrition Services Division (NSD) implemented the CNIPS FDP module on May 10, 2010, which changes the way State Distribution Center agencies order and receive commodity food. We will continue to communicate with you so that you will know when to begin using the module.

With the implementation of the CNIPS FDP module, the FDP will no longer mail paper offerings. Warehouse and State Co-op agencies will place their commodity food orders in CNIPS. Agencies will be notified via the FDP e-mail when orders are to be placed in CNIPS. We expect the notification for Offering A to be sent out via the FDP e-mail in June 2010. Please know that CNIPS will not accept orders once an ordering period closes.

We encourage you to sign up for CNIPS training, if you have not already done so. It is important that you understand the new process for ordering commodity food. The NSD sent out a notification for the May and June 2010 CNIPS FDP module training. The CNIPS FDP module training information is available on NSD’s Web page at [Note, the preceding Web address is no longer valid].

The NSD will update you regularly regarding changes related to the CNIPS system. You can also access general information on the California Department of Education’s CNIPS Project Information Web page at, which includes information on the status of the CNIPS FDP module. We encourage you to visit the site regularly.

Thank you for your continued support as we implement the CNIPS FDP module. We are certain that the CNIPS FDP module will streamline your administrative responsibilities. If you have any questions regarding this subject, please contact Amy Bell, Commodity Consultant, Nutrition Services Division, at 916-322-5051 or by e-mail at
