Subject: Changing Receipt of U.S. Department of Agriculture Foods for School Year 2012–13 |
|
This Management Bulletin (MB) notifies you of the opportunity to change the way you order U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foods and have them delivered for school year 2012–13. To aid in your decision, we have prepared the Food Distribution Program Avenues for Receiving United States Department of Agriculture Foods (attached), which compares services among the State Distribution Center (SDC), State Cooperatives, and Private Cooperatives. Your window of opportunity to make a change opens on October 1, 2011, and ends on December 1, 2011. As noted in MB NSD-FDP-03-2011 the California Department of Education (CDE) has reduced Administrative and Shipping and Handling fees by 20 percent.
The CDE would like your USDA food distribution business and asks that you consider choosing the state for receiving your donated food. Unlike commercial entities, CDE employees are public servants committed to keeping costs low and the level of customer service high. Specifically, the CDE Food Distribution Program (FDP) has invested significant resources at our SDCs by:
- Automating our SDCs, including the implementation of the Child Nutrition Information and Payment System FDP module, to order USDA Foods online through our SDCs
- Implementing a new bar coding inventory tracking system to efficiently and accurately track USDA Foods at our SDCs
- Hiring a Business Operations Manager to oversee both SDCs and increase strategic planning activities
If you choose to change the way your school annually receives USDA Foods, you must send a letter of intent and include your agency name, address, phone number, vendor number, and contact name to the Commodity Distribution Unit (CDU) by December 1, 2011. You do not need to notify the CDU if you are not changing your current system.
Please forward your letter of intent by fax or e-mail to:
