Subject: Natural Disaster Guidance

This Information Alert provides Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) sponsors pertinent information for serving nutritious meals to children during a natural disaster.

All SFSP sponsors in good standing may:

Sponsors wishing to operate sites during a natural disaster, but have serious deficiencies in their operation of the SFSP, will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Sponsors who may experience a financial impact due to non-reimbursable food costs can donate food items to a recognized homeless/emergency shelter. In order to claim the costs of the donated food, a receipt must be obtained from the receiving agency.

The California Department of Education (CDE) is compiling a resource page on our Web site where we will be posting updated information and guidance as it is made available by the United States Department of Agriculture.
