This Management Bulletin clarifies the eligibility of year-round programs that provide Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) meals to children who attend school on a year-round or continuous school calendar.
Previously, sponsors providing meals to children who were "off-track" for at least 15 consecutive school days throughout the year were approved to participate on the SFSP. To increase flexibility in response to changes in year-round scheduling, the USDA has changed the 15-day requirement.
Effective immediately, the SFSP Unit has the authority to waive the 15 consecutive school days requirement. A waiver is available for sites that provide meals to children who attend regular classes on a year-round or continuous school calendar and have off-track periods of less than 15 days.
Sponsors that plan to serve children who are off-track for less than 15 days may request a waiver when submitting a Site Information Sheet for the proposed site. The request should include the school track calendar from which the site draws its participants. A map of the site and the school location should also be included.
