Subject: Annual Mandatory Summer Food Service Program Online Training for Returning Sponsors

Reference: Title 7, Code of Federal Regulations, Section 225.7(a)

NOTE: This mandatory training information does NOT apply to school districts who implement the Seamless Summer Feeding Option.

The California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division (NSD), conducts annual mandatory training each spring for all new and returning Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) agencies. All sponsors must participate in this annual training before the NSD will approve the SFSP agreement.

As announced in Management Bulletin (MB) NSD-SFSP-01-2012, we are providing an option for returning sponsors in good standing to complete the SFSP Annual Mandatory Training online. We are pleased to notify you that the training is now available on the California Professional Nutrition Education and Training (Cal-Pro-NET) Center Summer Food Service Program for Returning Sponsors Web page at It consists of the following three steps:

Step One: Review the course overview, instructions and course requirements
Step Two: Read the training modules
Step Three: Complete the online quizzes and course evaluation

Please do not forget to select the finish button after completing each quiz and the evaluation. If you do not select the finish button, the information will not record that you have completed the training. After we have received confirmation that you have completed the training and evaluation, you will receive an electronic Certificate of Completion.

Please be advised that you must complete the training by Friday, May 25, 2012, or sooner if you need to have your SFSP application approved before this date. We will closely monitor completion of this training. Failure to complete the training by the deadline or before your program start date may result in a delay to approve your SFSP application.

Returning sponsors that are not in good standing (e.g. sponsors deemed seriously deficient/problematic, and/or had systemic errors in their 2010–11 administrative review, and/or have new staff in a key administrative position [Executive Director, Administrator, or Authorized Representative]) must participate in the New SFSP Training options (Webinar or workshop).
