| Attention: Food Service Director, Business Official |
Date: June 2008 |
| Subject: Violation of Child Nutrition (CN) Labeling Program | |
| Reference: United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, Policy Memo SP-03-2008 | |
This Information Alert provides a notification that two manufacturing plants producing products under the Advance Food Company have made unauthorized changes to Child Nutrition (CN) Label approvals in violation of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) CN Labeling Program. The unauthorized changes resulted in the credit for meat/meat alternate and/or grain/bread being less than the amount claimed on the originally approved CN label.
The following products, produced by the Advance Food Company (establishment number 1932) located in Garland, Texas, and the Advance Food Company (establishment number 2260E) located in Enid, Oklahoma, are barred from using a CN label because they do not provide the credit claimed on the CN label:
| CN Number | Establishment Number | Product Name and Code |
|---|---|---|
| 069662 | 1932 | Flamebroiled beef patties CN5117 |
| 069283 | 2260E | Beef steak fritter for a biscuit CN79020-20 |
| 064321 | 1932 | Breaded chicken fried beef pattie 04080-761 FMB 45178 |
This violation withdraws the assurance to schools using food-based menu planning options that these products provide the meal pattern components as stated on the CN label. Districts using the Traditional or Enhanced Food Based Menu Planning options may still use the product; however, you can no longer rely on the information provided on the CN label. If you choose to use the above products, you need to contact the manufacturer for the correct crediting documentation. Districts using a nutrient-based menu planning option should seek updated information from the manufacturer from their nutrient database, since the formulations for these products have changed.
If Advance Food Company wishes to produce any of the above products as a CN-labeled product, they must submit a new label application with a new CN identification number for final approval by FNS and the Food Safety Inspection Service for each of the products they wish to produce.
