Subject: "Phyto Bears" and Similar Products

This Management Bulletin transmits information on a product containing phytochemicals called "Phyto Bears." "Phyto Bears" and products similar in size and texture to "Gummi Bears" fall into the category of "jellies and gums" and are considered foods of minimal nutritional value. Therefore, they cannot be sold in the food service area during the meal period. "Foods of minimal nutritional value" must meet specific requirements to be exempted by the Nutrition and Technical Services Division (NTSD) of the United States Department of Agriculture.
